Current Vacancy – Deputy Harbour Master

35 hours per week; starting salary £39,500 to £42,500; 35 days annual leave; pension scheme; permanent contract

Mallaig Harbour Authority are looking to recruit a Deputy Harbour Master to support the Harbour Master in directing and coordinating the provision of a safe and efficient service in the Port, that meets relevant statutory requirements for safe navigation. Applicants should have the longer term ambition and attitude to succeed the present Harbour Master.

Mallaig Harbour is a busy West Coast Port, servicing the fishing and Aquaculture industries, and providing infrastructure for lifeline ferry services operated by CalMac and private operators. Operated by Mallaig Harbour Authority, a Trust Port, there are exciting plans for development, and we are now looking to strengthen the management team.

The successful candidate will have previous seafaring / marine experience in a position of responsibility, and will ideally hold as a minimum an Advanced Powerboat Certificate or equivalent. They should have a good understanding of the various operations undertaken from Mallaig Harbour, and the ability to adapt quickly to meet day to day changes in these operational needs. The post holder will be required to take responsibility for compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code, and so a demonstrable ability to follow, interpret and manage procedures and documentation/records as required by licencing and regulatory authorities relating to the maritime industry is important.
