Appointment of Non-Executive Board Members
Mallaig Harbour Authority is a Trust Port, managing the busy port of Mallaig, which provides services to the fishing and aquaculture industry, and facilities to support Marine Tourism in the area. It also acts as a hub for onward ferry travel to Skye, The Small Isles, Knoydart and the Outer Hebrides. The Authority is made up of eight non-Executive Members and one Executive Member and in 2016 published a Masterplan outlining significant future development plans. While the breakwater project from the Masterplan is on hold at the moment, a number of smaller developments have been achieved or are in the pipeline.
We are now seeking to make appointments of two non-executive members to the Board and applications are invited from individuals with a keen interest in the activities and business of the Port.
The appointments will be for a period of three years commencing in June 2025, after successful interviews. Posts will be part time, up to two days per month, and are remunerated.
Applications are invited from interested parties from all disciplines who will be able to demonstrate a range of skills, attributes and experience that will contribute to the functioning of the Board. An ability to grasp complex issues quickly is important, as is experience of achieving results in a committee or board environment.
Competencies/Skills
Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following:
- An ability and proven track record in their chosen profession or other activities;
- The ability to contribute effectively in group discussions and influence a wide range of people, including specialists and professionals;
- The ability to analyse problems and assess evidence impartially, to set strategic direction and critically assess opportunities and threats;
- Knowledge and interest in the local and wider community and the economic and social context in which the Port of Mallaig operates
The Authority is committed to equality of opportunity and encourages a diverse range of applicants and to the principle of appointment on merit with independent assessment, openness and transparency of process in accordance with the Guide to Good Governance for Trust Ports.
