Mallaig Harbour – Outer Basin – Ground Investigation Works

Notice is hereby given that ground investigation works are scheduled to commence on Monday 6th September 2021 and are expected to continue until 1st October 2021. The works will take place within the Outer Harbour at Mallaig (NM 67717 97273) with specific locations as shown on the attached drawing.

These works will include 6 boreholes undertaken using a cantilevered platform from the quay side and 4 grab samples taken from a small access boat.

A spotter will be used to monitor the movement of other vessels whilst the grab samples from the access boat are taken. The grab samples will be carried out relatively quickly and the access boat can move in and out of position accommodate vessel movements within the Harbour.

The cantilever platform and drilling rig will be in place in the location of each of the bore holes for a period of several days, and a schedule of movements will be made available to regular users of the Harbour. The topside area surrounding the cantilever platform and drilling rig will be fenced off and conspicuous signage will be placed on the quay edge to warn unplanned vessels of the closure of the berth and presence of the works.
